The second volume begins where the first volume ended. David and Rose begin their family while continuing to settle their claim. The first harvest season supplies the couple with an unexpected bounty. Children abandoned or orphaned from across the vast territory are rescued and provided for by the formation of the Coulter Children's Home. The friendships developed with the people of Reliance town grows steadily into a tight community that rallies when trrouble develops for one of its own.
